1. Purpose of the Forum: This Forum exists to facilitate the discussion of game hacking and related topics. "Game Hacking" is to be construed in the sense of individual game modification, including penetration testing and speculative discussion of vulnerabilities and/or techniques.

2. Purpose of these Rules: These Rules are laid forth in the hope that they will facilitate discussion of the aforementioned topic, engender communal spirit and mutual forbearance, and provide a common basis for what is and what is not allowed to provide a positive and constructive enviroment for all levels of discussion.

3. Acceptance of these Rules: Members and Guests choosing to post on the Forum implicity accept these rules and agree to be subject to their application.

4. Moderators: Moderators exist to facilitate this discussion. All Members and Guests are encouraged to contact Moderators concerning any queries or complains they may have concerning the Forum, its Members or its Rules. Moderators are in turn expected to assist Members and Guests or refer them to relevant officers. Moderators will be subjected to periodic review and a failure to participate and/or contribute to the forum may result in the loss of moderator privileges.

5. Affirmative Action: In all cases Moderators may amend posts not found to be compliant with the Rules expressed herein; when making such amendments the Moderators are required to note their own nickname and give a reason for which the amendment was made. Entire threads found to be in violation of these rules may be locked or deleted; in the former case the moderator shall add a post explaining why the topic was locked, whilst in the latter he or she shall make a post to the "About HITB" topic explaining the reason for the deletion. Deletion is reserved for more serious offences and should always be a last resort. If, once a thread is locked or deleted, a Member or Guest posts a new thread essentially in continuation of the previous thread, this new post (and any thread that may ensue) can be deleted without notification or mention. Multiple copies of a cross-posted message may be deleted, provided that one copy be left in place.

6. Illicit Access and Hacking of this Forum: Any attempt to gain illicit access or illicitly elevate one's privileges on this Forum will result in immediate banning and reporting to the perpetrator's ISP, whether such attempts are successful or not. Discussion of server vulnerabilities and security issues is however encouraged with the proviso that the Founder be forewarned and he give his explicit consent.

7. Obscenities: Obscene language is not allowed, and direct links to obscene material is not allowed. (One is, however, allowed to post a link to a relevant site that may or may not feature pornographic pop-ups; the poster is encouraged to forewarn of this when posting.) Furthermore, Members found to have obscene or offensive nicknames or avatars will be requested to make corrections; if met with non-compliance, moderators will be allowed to unilaterally make amendments as they see fit. However, when changing a Member's username the Moderator is required to send an email to the Member in question informing him or her of the change, lest the Member be unable to log in again.

8. Software Piracy: Requesting or posting serial numbers, cracks, or commerical software is not allowed. Posting links to such material is not allowed. Advertisement of websites offering commercial software for illegal download ("warez") is not allowed.

9. Hacking: This is a forum intended for the use of game hacking. It is not intended as a one-stop school for hacking hopefuls. Nonetheless, questions by newcomers and interested people are encouraged and will most likely be answered, especially by individuals seeking assistance. However, requests or posts of a clearly malicious nature, including, but not limited to, requests to assist in revenge, "hacking" Hotmail or R********e, or violation of other users' privacy (such as illicit access to email accounts) will be met with immediate locking and possibly deletion. Users found to be posting malicious material (such as username/password collection schemes or "trojanized" software) will be irrevocably banned.

10. Mutual Respect: Members and Guests alike are expected to behave in a civilized manner and respect one-another. This means no derogatory or snide remarks of any kind. Traditional social niceties ("good manners") such as "please" and "thank you" are encouraged. Rudeness will not be tolerated, and personal insults may be reported to Moderators who will be allowed to admonish or suspend the offending party. Cross-posting is rude and multiple incidents will be met with serious sanctions.

11. Posting Links: If posting a link to a download, the poster is required to post a link to the relevant webpage rather than to the software itself. When posting a link, posters are encouraged to make the link explicit rather than conceal it by means of the BBcode URL syntax. This is important in order to ensure other users known where material is coming from. Users found to be using "dishonest syntax" (such as {url=http://www.mysite.com}www.hotmail.com{/url}) will be irrevocably banned.

12. Posting Images: Users are encouraged to post images at a maximum resolution of 640x480 for the benefit of users with small screens or limited bandwidth.

13. Spamming: Users found to be spamming or posting unjustified commercial links with a view to promotion of a commercial entity or self-promotion will be subject to banning. The post will be deleted or the relevant links rendered inert/removed.

14. Debating/Off-site Issues: This is partly encompassed in points 7 and 10, although i'd like to make this rule clear as it's own distinct number. There has been a lot of issues over the years, and again of late, about events that have happened outside of this board. Members, take it upon themselves to incite hatred and start debating about various issues. A key one is the issue of 'Paid Vs Free' stuff, whether that is a trainer or a program. If people wish to sell their stuff, then so be it. Don't bring it up on the forum as a reason why someone should be bashed or why someone shouldn't be given help.

Another example worth mentioning is that of trainer options stealing and ripping. This has been a hot topic of late on various sites, including this one. If you suspect someone of taking what is not rightfully theirs, yet you can't prove it, then your contribution carries no weight. Period. If you do have proof, and it affects this board in some way, then inform an admin. Again, regardless of the nature of the situation, don't post it public. It will only seek to stir a problem. Another site, which won't be mentioned, recently introduced an absolute zero-tolerance policy for this sort of negative behaviour. Although this sort of plan won't be taken here at the present time, it will remain open to consideration, should the need arise to enact it in the future.

If you have an issue with someone, simply ignore them. If they are offending you in some way, such as via the PM system, then let an admin know. Don't retaliate or enter into a discussion, as it will almost always turn nasty. This goes for all moderators and staff whether active/inactive, kind/mean, fat/thin, male/female; you get the idea. No one has the right to carry out such negligence on the forum, and no member should have to be the subject of this spiteful behaviour.

Anyone found to be in breach of the above rule will be subject to the same sanctions that apply to the other verbal offences that could be commited on this board. It is completely unecessary, and does not further this website. If you have strong beliefs that you simply can't bottle up then I suggest you join some sort of a political debates board, of which there are many, and on which you could voice your opinion in a purpose-built and controlled environment.
